Donald Lee Novick, 61, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Oct. 12 at home after a tough battle with lung cancer.
Donald was born July 9, 1945 in Cheyenne and was raised here.
He lived in Tucson, Ariz., for 17 years and had lived in Cedar Rapids for the last 20 years.
He graduated from Cheyenne Central High in 1963.
He was a chef for Methwick and D'Novick Catering, was the former restaurant owner of The Raven Inn, Gilded Carriage & American Gothic Café.
He was a board member of the World International Cultural Center and slated to be its executive chef. He was active in the BBYO, Ki-Ann Indians, Jaycees, and a member of Temple Judah.
In Tucson, he helped revitalize The Temple of Music and Art as a performance center. As owner of The Green Dolphin, he instituted the nation's first campus-wide bus service to protect students from a rapist at large.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Denise (Alexander); daughters, Dawn, Rochelle and Cassy; son, David; one grandchild; and a brother, William Novick.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and David Novick.
Funeral services were held at Temple Judah with Rabbi Aaron Sherman officiating. The burial service was at Eben Israel Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
